Legacy Seeds is a specialized subsidiary and out-grower production unit of the Legacy Crop Improvement Centre (LCIC). Founded by Dr. Amos Rutherford Azinu and based in Otareso, Eastern Region, it produces certified hybrid seeds and high-yielding crop varieties.
Legacy Seeds operates as the dedicated production, processing, and packaging arm of the Legacy Crop Improvement Centre (LCIC) , a premier private seed business and agricultural research enterprise established in 2015. Located at Legacy Square in Otareso (Akwapim North Municipality), LCIC is built to tackle the core productivity barrier in West African agriculture: access to climate-smart, high-yielding, certified planting materials
Legacy Seeds focuses on producing foundational and commercial certified seeds designed for high performance across diverse agro-ecological zones:
Hybrid Maize Varieties: Flagship high-yielding single-cross maize hybrids (such as LEGACY 17 , Legacy 2 , and LEGACY 26 yellow seed maize) engineered for strong standability, disease tolerance, and commercial grain production yields reaching up to 10 tons per hectare.
Legumes & Staples: Certified seed production for protein-rich legumes including Favour (Soybean) and Zamzam (Cowpea) .
Vegetable Seeds: Specialized horticultural lines including Legacy Master (Okra) and Legacy Champion (Chilli Pepper) .
Infrastructure & Facilities LCIC operates state-of-the-art facilities on a 200-acre farm equipped with advanced irrigation systems, modern seed-cleaning machinery, precision drying equipment, and a high-capacity 50-ton cold storage gene bank designed to preserve seed viability and prevent post-harvest deterioration. Rather than operating as a direct consumer retail outlet, Legacy Seeds focuses on bulk processing and supplying certified inputs to commercial distributors, out-grower networks, and agricultural enterprises throughout Ghana and West Africa
