The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has officially received a generous donation of 2,000 metric tons of fertilizer from the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Accra. The donation forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security across the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku (MP), who is currently on official duty in Ethiopia, the Honorable Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture expressed deep appreciation to the Kingdom of Morocco for what he described as a “timely and strategic intervention.”
“This donation is not just a consignment of fertilizer; it is a profound symbol of the strong and enduring relationship between our two nations,” the Deputy Minister remarked. He noted that the support from Morocco reaffirms its steadfast commitment to Ghana’s agricultural transformation and its broader development agenda.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of fertilizer in achieving the goals of the Feed Ghana Programme, a flagship initiative under the Government’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA). The Programme aims to boost productivity, improve food and nutrition security, create decent employment, and stimulate agro-industrial linkages.

“Access to quality fertilizer is critical to the success of this effort. This donation will go a long way in addressing the input needs of smallholder farmers, particularly at a time when government is scaling up distribution to priority production zones,” he stated.
The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Ghana, officials from both countries, representatives of farmer-based organizations, development partners, and members of the media.
The Deputy Minister also underscored the growing cooperation between Ghana and Morocco in areas such as fertilizer development, seed commercialization, irrigation, and knowledge transfer. He gave firm assurance that the donated fertilizer would be distributed transparently and efficiently to its intended beneficiary farmers operating in high-impact food production zones.
The donation is seen as a further step in deepening bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Morocco, particularly in agricultural development. It is also expected to contribute meaningfully to the Government’s efforts to ensure sustainable food systems and rural prosperity.
As the ceremony concluded, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco, expressing hope for continued collaboration that yields mutual benefits.
“Together, we are sowing the seeds of transformation, and together, we will reap the fruits of food security, economic growth, and rural prosperity,” he declared.
Long live Ghana-Morocco cooperation.
Long live African agricultural transformation.
