Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and accomplished Farm Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of successfully implementing a Turmeric production or similar project, demonstrating expertise in sustainable production management practices, and fostering positive environmental and socio-economic impacts. The Farm Manager, will play a crucial role in advancing our organization's commitment to sustainable agriculture, soil conservation, and economic empowerment of farmers..
As the Farm Manager at Farmerline, you will play a pivotal role in executing, and expanding our Turmeric Project in the Ashanti and Volta Regions and other regions of Ghana when upscaling the production. Your responsibilities will span the entire project lifecycle, from field selection, farmer engagement, farmer selection, engaging stakeholders, forging partnerships with other partners, and ensuring meticulous monitoring and reporting.
Success metrics include;
Timely and efficient execution of all farming operations, including land preparation, planting, maintenance, and harvesting
Achieve or exceed expected yield and quality standards for turmeric crops
Establishment and management of successful partnerships with outgrowers, training and ensuring consistent quality and timely delivery of crops
Responsibilities
- Farm Operations Management:
- Plan and execute all farm activities from land preparation to harvest (planting, irrigation, weeding, fertilization, and pest management)
- Ensure efficient use of farm resources (e.g., water, fertilizers, labor)
- Staff Supervision:
- Recruit, train, and supervise farm workers and outgrowers to ensure good productivity
- Crop Management:
- Implement good agricultural practices (GAPs) specific to turmeric
- Monitor crop health and growth, addressing any issues promptly
- Budgetting/Record Keeping:
- Assist in developing and managing budgets and ensure cost-effective implementation
- Maintain accurate records of farm activities, including planting schedules, input usage, and harvest data
- Outgrower Scheme Coordination:
- Develop and manage partnerships with local outgrowers for turmeric cultivation
- Provide technical support and training to outgrowers to ensure consistent quality
- Monitor and evaluate outgrower performance to meet production goals
- Sustainability and Compliance:
- Ensure farm activities comply with environmental regulations and sustainability standards
- Harvest and Post-Harvest Management:
- Plan and oversee the turmeric harvesting process, ensuring timely and efficient harvest
- Ensure proper storage, drying, and processing of turmeric to maintain product quality.(where applicable)
- Project Management & Reporting:
- Participate in project planning, review meetings, and strategy sessions
- Provide detailed progress reports to management and stakeholders
- Support grant applications, workshops, and farmer engagement activities
- Health and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations on the farm
- Train staff on safety procedures and the proper use of equipment
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field
- 2-5 years of farm management experience, preferably in turmeric or spice crop production
- Strong knowledge of Turmeric, Ginger, Orange Flesh Potatoes, Sugar Snaps Peas, Green Beans cultivation techniques and good agricultural practices
- Experience managing farm labor and working with outgrowers
- Familiarity with budgeting, financial management, and reporting
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to operate an irrigation system
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices
- Must live in and around Weta and Avalavi
