About the Opportunity

Rujo Agric Trade Company Ltd is establishing a modern, automated rice processing facility in Tamale and is seeking a motivated and experienced Quality Assurance Officer to lead the implementation and day-to-day management of the factory's food safety and quality assurance systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that raw materials, processing operations, packaging and finished rice consistently meet company specifications, customer requirements and applicable food safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Food Safety & Quality Systems

  • Implement, maintain and continually improve the company's HACCP, GMP and quality assurance systems.
  • Maintain food safety policies, SOPs, specifications, monitoring forms and quality records.
  • Ensure effective implementation of prerequisite programmes, including hygiene, sanitation, pest control, environmental monitoring, maintenance and personnel practices.
  • Support customer, regulatory and certification audits, and coordinate closure of identified non-conformities.

Raw Material & Supplier Quality

  • Inspect and approve incoming paddy, packaging materials and other production inputs.
  • Monitor key paddy quality parameters, including moisture content, foreign matter, damaged or discoloured grains, pest infestation, varietal uniformity and general grain condition.
  • Maintain supplier approval and performance-monitoring systems.
  • Approve, reject or quarantine incoming materials based on established specifications.

Process & Finished Product Quality Control

  • Monitor quality throughout cleaning, destoning, dehusking, milling, polishing, grading, colour sorting, packaging and storage.
  • Monitor key quality indicators, including moisture content, head rice yield and milling recovery, percentage of broken grains, degree of milling, grain appearance and purity, foreign matter, pack weight accuracy, and packaging and seal integrity.
  • Ensure effective monitoring and verification of food safety control points, including metal detection and other foreign-body controls.
  • Verify finished product conformity before release.

Traceability, Non-Conformance & CAPA

  • Maintain effective batch identification and traceability from paddy receipt through finished product dispatch.
  • Coordinate mock traceability and recall exercises.
  • Investigate process deviations, product non-conformities and customer complaints.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), monitoring them to ensure effectiveness and prevent recurrence.

Hygiene, Environmental Monitoring & Training

  • Conduct routine GMP and hygiene inspections and coordinate the factory's environmental monitoring programme.
  • Train employees on GMP, personal hygiene, food safety, HACCP, quality procedures and product specifications.
  • Promote a strong culture of food safety and quality ownership across the factory.

Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain daily quality and inspection reports, production quality summaries, laboratory and monitoring results, customer complaint investigations, internal audit reports, CAPA status reports, and food safety and quality performance reports.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Employment Type: Full-time.
  • Reports To: Managing Director.
